Response post # 5 (from Po-Kai)
In the last part of “A Step from Heaven”, Young Ju writes about her father leave them and go back to Korea, and how they start their new life in the United States. Her father gets on an Asian woman’s car and leave police office. After that incident, her mother rarely goes back to home, and Young Ju needs to take her brother by herself. Uncle Tim also helps their family by supporting some money. Her Apa have extramarital relations and finally leave them and go back to Korea. AnNa and her mother decide to stay in the United States. They believe they can live in the United States without Apa. Then, she describes that they brought a house when she study in the college. She shows how happy they are by showing their mood when they move into their new house. Next, her mother shows her some pictures that took at Korea. According to the pictures, she recall wave surfing when she was four year old. She realized that the voice told her to be brave is her Apa’s voice and not her grandmother’s. Her mother also told her that she miss that period. Then, AnNa illustrates the details of her mother’s hand. She first time really and carefully to look at her mother’s hand, and she knows how hard her mother works to support their family. She feels very sad because she cannot help too much. After her Apa lefts them, Young Ju, Joon and their mother start a new life in the United States. They have their own house and even have a back yield, and Young Ju study in the college and her mother doesn’t need to work three jobs anymore. From her writing, they show how strong they are, and also I can feel that she expect their future will be very bright.
