response #5 from Sunghoon Park
Anna, the writer of “A Step From Heaven,” wrote that the hardship of immigrant life in young-Ju’s family in America. Young-Ju had reported the father’s violence to family to the police. Finally, Young-Ju’s father was taken to the police and was taken into police custody for a while. After this event, Young-Ju’s family was faced with hardship in immigrant life to all members of park’s family. When Young-Ju’s father was released from custody, he made decision to go back to Korea as leave their family in America. Young-Ju’s mother, young-Ju and Joon-Ho began to live new life in America without the head of a family. They moved to new place and all three members had a job for helping support a family; her mother even had three jobs for support her family and Young-Ju gained a scholarship from her college and released to her mother’s burden about tuition. While they were moving to new place, Young-Ju saw some pictures, which was her mother’s family and these pictures made young-Ju homesick. I think that most of immigrants could have these hardship immigrant life, when they just entered upon new life as young-Ju’s family did such as financial problem, the language, and finally homesick. I almost have lived in America for two years, furthermore I did not go to Korea during 2 years, even if I had vacation. Sometimes I missed my parents and friends, especially when my mother called me and got e-mail from friends. However, what I would like to go to America was my choice and I promised to myself that I never visit to Korea until my goal is not finished in America. Likeness, Young-Ju’s family has responsibility for the fulfillment of obligations even though immigrant life was too hard. As the proverb says “every cloud has a silver lining.”
