Lisa's opinions
The author of A Step From Heaven, An Na, wrote about Young Ju Park in details. From the first 27 pages, An Na talks about Young Ju Park and her family who want to go to America. Young Ju is a naïve girl. She does not really know about Mi Gook, which is America. She thought that Mi gook is heaven, so she expects that she will find Harabugi who died and go to heaven. Until she came to America, she found out that Mi Gook is not heaven and she is not going to find Harabugi. From this novel, I agree with some of her opinion about America, especially in page 18. The writer says that Mi Gook have the very best education so someday Young Ju will be better than a fisherman’s wife. I think this is right, because America is developed country and they have a better education program. At the first time I came here, I know and believe that I will get more knowledge and education in here. And that is true. In here, I can get more sources very easy better than in my country. However, it depends on how my attitude is. Do I want to search and know more? In her preparation to Mi Gook, she also curled her hair so that she can be like American’s girl who has curly hair. I disagree with this issue, because going to America does not mean that you have to change your appearance to be like American. When I came here, I did not change my appearance and that makes this world look more variety. However, along the way in America, I am naturally adjusting to the environment. In addition, adjusting to the environment is important too. Like in this novel page 27, Gomo gives Young Ju coca cola and tell her that this drink is common in America and she should adjust and get herself comfortable to drink it.
