This story is about a four year old girl who was forced by their parents to migrate to the United States. Her parents were not in a good term for a long time, but moving to “Mi Gook” had changed everything. Her family believed that moving to the U.S. could make them richer, more successful and a better education for their daughter. When she arrived at the United States, she just realized that it was not as she had expected to be. In the story she regretted coming to the United States, and she hoped she could go back to her own country.
On page 11, the book states that “In Mi Gook everyone can make lots of money even if they did not go to an important school in the city.” I do not agree with this issue because I think it is hard to find a suitable job in the U.S. Many of my friends who had graduated from the universities had difficulties finding a suitable job and they had to go back to their countries or move to another country.
“Mi Gook are pretty like dolls.” (pg 11) I agree with this statement because I think Americans have very beautiful features. They have colored eyes, high nose, great body, beautiful skin.
Halmoni mentions that “Mi Gook” is only for young people to have a new start. I agree with this statement because I think the United States has good education for students and offers high paid jobs for highly educated students. It is also hard for old people to adjust to the environment and the weather in the United States
In conclusion, I agree that America is a good place for people like me to have a new start, to be more exposed to the world and to have more experiences. However, America is a very competitive country. In order for anyone to succeed, one has to work double hard too.
