Response of Blog # 5 from Jiyeun Lee

This week’s reading from A step from Heaven is just 3 parts. It is pretty short, so I can easily read our last reading part. It mainly concerned about Young Ju’s family life after police caught her father and his father expel to America (go back Korea).
Her mother arranged picture of her and her family. Young Ju found some pictures from her and her father played together. She did not believe and thought that this picture’s man is his father because she can not believe her father is friendly playing with her last time. She asked Uhmma “I flown. Apa.” (Na 149).She can not believe that that is her and her father because recently she can not find benevolent in her father. She taught her father always angry and aggressive person.
Young Ju describes her mother’s hands, “Uhmma’s hands are as old as sand. They have always been old, even when we were young”(Na 151). It is really sad sentence to me because it reminds me my mom and dad. They work hard because of me and, brother, and our family. Young Ju mom also same she works so hard because of Young Ju and Joon. After, Young Ju’s father left America. Uhmma is only person (adult) who can take care of her children. She has to work even night and Sunday. Young Ju and Joons’ life are also busier. They don’t have a time to go church. Her mother is busy all day. Young Ju and Joon should work in Uncle Tim’s ice cream store. This book is closed with her mother looks at Young Ju and Joon’s palm and tells their fortune. I can feel mother’s affectionate to their children and their intimacy. I am sure about that they will live happily together even Apa is not live in America and everyday of hard work waiting for them.
