Post #1.. written by Sunghoon Park
Anna, the author of “A Step from Heaven,” wrote that the progress of emigration to Mi-Gook and changes the feeling inside of Young-Ju. Basically Anna said that there were difference view each of Young-Ju and her parents. Her parents thought that Mi-Gook was a country of great opportunities, because they could make a lot of money, live big house, and be educated by good quality to her daughter, Young-Ju. On the other hands, Young-Ju thought that Mi-Gook was a heaven, because she loved God and wanted to go to heaven where God lived, and also meet her Harabugi at there. As soon as Young-Ju and her parents emigrated to Mi-Gook, she felt that this was not a heaven as she expected, because there were no God and Harabugi at a heaven. However, I believe that Mi-Gook is still a country of great opportunities. A large number of people, who live in backward country and developing country, emigrate to developed country, which is America each year. And until now, the main purpose of immigration is to make a lot of money and to enjoy happiness of high quality of life. Before I come in America, if I said that I wanted to study at backward country or developing country, my parents might take the side opposite mine, because there were few opportunities than developed country. In accordance with these reason, I choose America to get high quality degree and living, because, generally speaking, the degree and work experience at America guarantee higher income and high class in society in Korea. Of course it is not easy to live in another county, also her parents were going to suffer from different culture and life style, and language, but they always have a chance to success if they make an effort what they do and they can also give good education to their daughter with parents, as the proverb says “Every cloud has a silver lining.” I believe that her parents made good decision for family and her daughter.
